January 2013 Newsletter

“You don’t put middle and high school-age youth together in the same room, do you?!?!” This was the constant comment from parents of our students from both middle and high school. When we mentally picture these groups of students in the same room, it’s normally something combustible to include plenty of fireworks of emotion. Therefore, it wasn’t unheard of when the parents showed a bit of concern when we told them the first semester would be a place of outreach and both age groups would be put together.

We weren’t exactly sure how the semester would come together. God did – big time. Throughout the semester, we saw things happen that were so amazing that it only could be Christ-driven. Typically any adult who knows high school seniors would see them separate themselves.  These seniors believe they are more mature and are moving into a new life as a college student very soon.

Our group of high school senior boys are rock stars. For example, take Nick, he’s one of our middle school-age boys who has been homeschooled his whole life. His social situations are a bit awkward and he hasn’t been introduced to the idea of competition with groups of students. In the beginning, he had a tough time accepting losing and taking a few bumps and bruises. It was tough for Nick, but like a champ, he kept on coming and competing at Club events. Rather than pick on him and tease him, our group of high school guys decided to embrace what was occurring and cheer him on. By semester’s end, Nick had started to take incredible hits playing flag football and dusting himself off and getting back into the games when necessary. If it weren’t for us keeping our groups together, we would have not seen this kind of student leadership at this magnitude.

On the flip side with the girls, nothing fell short of God’s majesty in these groups. Katelyn is a student who has grown up in a supportive and loving home her whole life. However, when it came to having a bunch of close friends, Katelyn didn’t have many at all. Now let’s add in Tabitha, an eager and up-and-coming high school student leader. Katelyn and Tabitha have now become great friends according to our lady leadership and their parents. One moment specifically was when both girls were invited to go hang out with one of our leaders. They hung out together during the flag football event Club put together and then they went to see a really cool Christmas light display with the leader. They spent with one another and built a friendship outside of Club.

Please join us in celebrating many more moments like these and pray that more will open up in the next months at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. As we obediently follow what God has planned here, I truly believe He will show up for our students. Pray that more students will bond together, especially with the upcoming deployments that are planned for our locations, which affect all of us greatly. From the ground here in Georgia and all of our hearts, we thank you for the ongoing prayer, support and care which God has provided through you all. May Christ reign throughout the remainder of our school year in all we do.
